CONCERN - Concern's Appeal

CONCERN's Appeal to support Destitute Children

CONCERN for Children and Environment-Nepal is a nonprofit, nonpolitical organization established in March 1993. CONCERN’s main objectives are advocate the rights of the children and the improvement of children’s social and natural environments. In 1998 CONCERN evaluated its success at improving the condition and social development of children within the Kathmandu Valley and decided to expand its activities to the rural communities. In order to achieve this aim CONCERN is in need of funds. CONCERN works with those children who are in risk of becoming street children. Many of these children's parents have migrated from rural areas to work in high risk daily wage jobs such as portering, manual laboring, street vending, rag picking, carpet weaving and begging. These rural children are highly vulnerable of becoming street / working children and once they enter into the street life, they never return to their families. CONCERN therefore takes care of more then 250 of these children. CONCERN also tries to raise environmental awareness among these children. The children are provided with different vegetable seeds that they grow in CONCERN’s main center and all the proceeds go directly to the children. This provides a good opportunity to educate the children in horticultural practices which supplements their family income.

CONCERN always focuses to raise the awareness of the rights of the child and attempts to mobilize the community to improve the welfare of children, especially those who live in the most difficult circumstances. It now aims to further realize its goal and strengthen the capability of communities in the protection and promotion of the rights of the child. CONCERN believes that instead of excessive paper work the most effective way to improve the lives of children is through action and result orientated programs and activities. CONCERN welcomes any kind of support (cash or in kind) for these children.

The following supports are in high demand:

  • - used and unused clothes

  • - stationary goods
  • - seeds for kitchen gardening
  • - medicines and hygienic products

The goods donated to CONCERN go directly to the children themselves and a few percentage goes to CONCERN’s child forum. A physician conduct health check up program every Friday and provides medicine to needy children and their parents. Besides, free medical service is available every day by a full time nurse.
