CONCERN - Welcome



Concern for Children and Environment Nepal (CONCERN-Nepal) is a NGO established in 1993. Its principal purpose is to be an advocator for underprivileged children and their social and natural living environment in Nepal. It helps and protects underprivileged children and working children living in very difficult circumstances. CONCERN was officially registered at Chief District Office of His Majesty’s Government in 1994 and in the same year it was affiliated with Social Welfare Council, under the Women and Social Welfare Ministry. The organization has seven management committee members headed by Executive Chairperson.

With the support of Child Workers in Asia  (CWA), Bangkok, CONCERN-Nepal began its work in 1994 with a survey on the situation of child-porters in the Kathmandu valley titled, ‘Burden on Childhood’. For the last seven years period of time it gained wide experiences working with UNICEF, Action Aid-Nepal, Save the Children UK, etc from theyear 1995 to 1998. In the year 2000 it worked with Kathmandu Municipality on 5 Urban Out of School Program (UOSP/ Non Formal Education) for working children in Kathmandu. CONCERN entered into agreement with Save the Children-Norway from 1998 to 2000 and it has again renewed its agreement with SCN for next three year 2003. CONCERN started its work with ILO/IPEC in 1996 as 1st phase 16 months time bound programme for support and rehabilitation of child porters in Kathmandu and 2nd phase till the end of November 2000. Now it is on the process of developing national time bound action programme for 5 years for child porters one of the worst forms of child labour. At present ILO has been supporting in some advocacy material production and national level research report production on stone quarry children in Nepal.

How can you support and join CONCERN?

For the fulfillment of the objectives and action strategies, CONCERN wishes to work with local and international progressive like-minded individuals and organizations having similar plans and programmes. Support is welcome  in various forms.

  • by exchanging information especially on children and environmental problems.

  • by disseminating information regarding the socio-economic conditions of people and the plight of the children and working children in Nepal.

  • by building local and international CONCERN support network group to strengthen solidarity throughout the movement.

  • by contributing resource materials for research and documentation for CONCERN's programmes and policies.

  • by becoming directly involved in CONCERN's activities, such as: research, rescue and rehabilitation and support for children living in adverse conditions.

  • by suggesting policies and programmes for the elimination of all sorts  of child and child labour exploitation.

  • by developing action programme regarding children and the environment.
